This video really helped, I know that I am not going for perfection with my beard but there are things that I might notice that I just realized recently no one else notices about my beard, people are now starting to give me compliments about how they like my beard, the Compliments are reassuring me That I am getting better at styling my beard and taking care of it.

Symmetry not perfection

This is certainly the mantra I’ve learned to take as my beard has gotten longer. I found myself spending more time than I care to admit in front of the mirror and becoming obsessed. Bottom line is unless you want to be consumed with this beard lifestyle 24/7 you have to hone in your routine and then move on with life. The moment the beard journey feels more like a burden, you’re doing it wrong!

Dang! I was having the same train of thought about my sides as I’m bout to do a trim tomorrow. My sides drive my OCD crazy cause I want it perfect. I have to take a step back and revisit my trim the next day or else I’d be beardless at the end of it. Thanks for the video, Dan!

That sounds like me. I thought I was the only one worried about this I get to a point where I stress over it. I’m just realizing you cannot have a perfect beard.

The struggle is real!! I deal with the lopsided sideburn area daily. The thing that has saved me is the commitment to my yeard. I’m hoping length and weight will eventually help 🤞🏻 Great topic that virtually everyone of us beardsmen has dealt with! It's good hearing to not go for perfection, because i made that mistake in the past. And it only brings regrets. Thanks for the good content and the positive vibes, more people should see your videos. You show us to love the beard we have!

Definitely a struggle on the daily. I always think about how it looks but I always have buddies that will tell me your beard looks great I wish I had it! That when I know I overreact or think too much in how it looks.

Go to a barber so don't have to worry about over-analyzing the trimming. I can 100% relate to over-analyzing the styling. I like my beard being styled like yours on the side. I am in an awkward phase where the side "poofs" out from my shirt collar. I have to remind myself each day - get it 85% there and walk away.

I try to not let it bother me.

Dan, still bearding on from Windsor On. Growing long takes time and huge patience. 7 months in though and i notice big changes from 3-4 months. I have started to get trim happy around the 5.5 month mark as I am a perfectionist but it's for the better as the hairs are getting closer and closer to eachother catching up for max density 😂. I have noticed triming with the lights off helps with the density trim too, or at least for me. Those hairs that clearly are longer or not part of plan are easily seen. Anyway beard on Broskie!

No such thing as a perfect beard.

This recently was bothering me as I was styling for one day. Spent way too long trying to get both sides "dialed in". Only to realize something my parents told me when I was younger. Your head and face have too sides to them. One side may grow longer, one side may grow thicker and there's not much you can realistically do about it, as they will even out naturally. Also how you sleep(back, stomach, side sleeper) will affect your sides is something I've learned over the past half year of growing my beard out longer. Thanks for the grounded check in Dan as a reminder that it'll all work out and to enjoy our beards.

interesting to hear you didn't play soccer and just follow and support your kids interests. so many parents we meet through kid sports put their kids in the sport because they used to do that sport and i just don't understand that. it's so much easier to just encourage whatever positive things catch your kids interest than to try to force your own interests on them. some of that happens anyway, especially if they're interests they see you pursue, and it feels great to share that with them!

I just stick to the routine now, and it won't be perfect. But if the main beard looks good, I do the best with the sides. It does look better then before. I feel people do realize it since someone made a comment, why don't you comb it. One day when it was puffed out and I wasnt thinking about it.Then, one time, when I fixed it once, someone made a gesture. That's its puffed out. So that makes you feel like maybe they are noticing it when they might not be. Lol.

Amazing vid!!! Spot on for most. Is it head hair? Is it beard hair? Should I trim? Should I let go? Some curl up and out, some grow straight back. Trim too far down or too far in or go too short, looks like a giant goatee lol. Don’t think there’s ever a “right” answer. Depending on face shape, how you style, look you are going for. I’ve gone too far in and said whoops don’t do that again. Took a while to fill back in. Just kinda had to deal with it and then you mentally grow past the oh is this hair sticking out phase because you can reflect back on when you had to walk around for 6 weeks looking like someone hit your connectors with a weed whacker😂 cheers🍻🍻🍻

I have an issue and I'm scared to lose the interest. I am very passionate about stuff that interests me while i can't focus on stuff I'm not interested. My beard was my main passion for the last year and a half and recently i started to get nerdy about espresso at home. The issue is that i found myself slipping out of the beard routine and interest. I don't want this to happen and I'm forcing myself to get back on track. I love the beard and everything it brings but it shifted out of focus. Do you have advice for this?

You nailed it Dan! I HATE the cheek curls try combing it oil butter and even balm (not a fan of balm) doesnt help even after i hit it with the aberlite everything looks good but that same section got a wavy area arghhh it annoys me when i look in the mirror but besides that im all good

Was LITERALLY just talking about this exactly with a friend the other day. It’s the Achilles heel of beard styling if you will, but you are absolutely correct, WE are typically our own WORST critic! The sides for me have always been tough to battle the dips, curls, and waves, but you are right, we are likely the ones that see it more than anyone else!
